PRESS RELEASE
The Malta Development Association (MDA) welcomes the initiative by Transport Malta inviting private parking owners to make their spaces available to the public outside normal operating hours.
The Association believes this is a sensible and timely measure which can help ease ongoing parking pressures in a number of localities. Making better use of existing, and often underutilised, private parking spaces particularly during evenings and weekends offers a practical way of increasing availability without placing further strain on land resources.
The MDA notes that a substantial number of privately owned parking facilities remain unused for significant periods. Allowing controlled public access to these spaces can provide immediate and tangible benefits for residents and visitors alike.
The Association also welcomes the decision to engage with stakeholders through a consultation process, as this will be key to ensuring that any eventual framework is workable in practice and takes into account the realities faced by operators.
The MDA encourages interested parties to participate in the consultation and looks forward to the development of an effective scheme that contributes positively to mobility and accessibility.
