The Malta Developers Association notes that there appears to be a controversy on the issue of the number of foreign workers currently working in Malta.
MDA feels that the economic rhythm that the country has now picked up would not have been possible without these foreign workers, who are making NI contributions as well as paying direct taxation and indirect taxation through their consumption in Malta.
As a result, Malta is now economically abreast with the leading EU member states and therefore these workers should be welcomed as long as they respect all our laws, including those regulating employment.
Any measures taken to curb the influx of foreign workers would harm the economy in the sense that the momentum achieved would be stalled.

L-MDA dwar ħaddiema barranin
Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tinnota li jidher li hawn kontroversja dwar in-numru ta’ ħaddiema barranin li bħalissa qed jaħdmu f’Malta.
L-MDA tħoss li r-ritmu tal-ekonomija li ntlaħaq fil-pajjiż ma kienx ikun possibbli mingħajr dawn il-ħaddiema barranin li qed jagħtu kontribuzzjonijiet lejn is-Sigurtà Nazzjonali kif ukoll iħallsu taxxi diretti u oħrajn indiretti permezz tal-konsum tagħhom f’Malta.
Bħala riżultat, Malta illum qegħda ekonomikament fuq quddiem mal-aktar stati avvanzati fl-UE u għaldaqstant dawn il-ħaddiema għandhom ikunu milqugħa sakemm ikunu rispettati l-liġijiet tagħna kollha, inkluż il-ligijiet li jirregolaw l-impjieg u x-xogħol.
Kull miżura li tittieħed biex tnaqqas l-influss ta’ ħaddiema barranin tagħmel ħsara lill-ekonomija fis-sens li żżomm lura l-momentum ekonomiku li ntlaħaq.
