The Malta Developement Association (MDA) successfully hosted Build Europe’s bi-annual Congress in Malta, bringing together over 34 representatives from developer federations across 20 European countries. The event focused on strengthening collaboration within the construction and real estate sectors, while addressing shared challenges in housing delivery across the continent.
Held between 29–31 October, the three-day Congress included round table discussions on key industry topics such as affordable housing, planning efficiency, taxation, and sustainable development. The event concluded with a development tour, where delegates visited several major Maltese projects including the Mercury Tower, ORA Residences, and The Verdala Project.
In his opening remarks, MDA CEO Leon Chetcuti welcomed the international delegations and highlighted the importance of cooperation:
“It is a privilege for Malta to host Build Europe once again. This Congress is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from each other and work together on practical solutions that improve housing availability and quality across Europe. By sharing our experiences, we can ensure our communities continue to grow in sustainable and meaningful ways.”
Delegates were also joined by Matthew Zerafa, CEO of the Housing Authority, who underlined the need for modern and adaptable housing strategies:
“Europe must build differently — not just more. We need a diversified housing supply that reflects how people live today and how they aspire to live tomorrow.”
This marks the second time Malta has hosted the Build Europe Congress, reaffirming the country’s role as a respected voice within the European development sector. The event showcased Malta’s ongoing commitment to responsible planning, innovation, and community-focused investment.
MDA looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with Build Europe and its member federations in support of a stronger and more resilient housing future for all Europeans.
