The Malta Development Association (MDA) congratulates the Labour Party and Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela on securing a historic fourth consecutive electoral victory in Malta’s 2026 General Election. The result reflects the confidence that a majority of voters have once again placed in the Government to lead the country through the next legislature.
The Association also extends its respect to the Nationalist Party and Opposition Leader Dr Alex Borg for the campaign they conducted throughout this electoral process. The election campaign reflected the vitality of Malta’s democratic institutions and encouraged national discussion on a number of important issues affecting the country’s future.
The MDA believes that a healthy democracy requires both a strong Government and a strong Opposition. The Association acknowledges Dr Borg’s efforts in presenting a new generation of political leadership and notes the message emerging from the electorate regarding the importance of constructive debate, accountability, and long term national planning.
The Association also wishes to acknowledge all candidates from across the political spectrum, as well as the Maltese and Gozitan people, for once again participating actively in the democratic process.
With the election now concluded, the MDA believes the country’s focus must shift towards addressing the current challenges and opportunities ahead. Malta requires continued work on housing affordability, infrastructure, planning reform, environmental sustainability, workforce development, economic competitiveness, energy security, and the continued improvement of quality of life for present and future generations.
As the representative body of a sector that contributes significantly to Malta’s economy, investment, employment, and national development, the Association looks forward to maintaining constructive dialogue with the Government, the Opposition, social partners, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders.
The MDA remains committed to supporting policies that encourage sustainable growth, responsible investment, social mobility, and greater certainty for both businesses and families. Malta’s future success will depend on long term vision, stability, and the ability of all stakeholders to work together in the national interest.
The Association wishes Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela and the incoming administration every success in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Maltese and Gozitan people. At the same time, it encourages continued constructive engagement from the Opposition under the leadership of Dr Alex Borg, recognising the important role it plays in strengthening Malta’s democratic institutions and contributing positively to Malta’s future development.
