“A tree instead of a building stone? As long as it’s not yours?” The President of the Malta Developers Association, Michael Stivala discusses the construction industry and the environment during the conference, L-Istat tan-Nazzjon.
Stivala clarified that the Malta Developers Association is absolutely in favour of preserving the rural environment, without any speculation. Rural and natural urban areas should not be affected. The President also praised and expressed his satisfaction with the 700 million euros investment which the government is dedicating to the urban environment to improve the villages hence improving the day to day lives of the residents.
The President of the Association also said that with this in mind, a balance must be maintained for the economy to remain strong, for it to continue to grow, and for further investment which will result in a balanced quality of life to the public in general.
Asked about the environmental disaster, Stivala said that the development is not done only by developers, recalling that this industry employs 82% of the population. An industry that is governed by rules, made up of a system that involves discussion, an industry that runs on policies, and on which permissions are based. He stressed that perhaps it is time for these policies to be reviewed, that they are made for everyone, and show the whole picture, in its entirety and transparency.
The President of the Association stressed the need for more professional discussions in aim to find the right balance and the economy and the environment. Constructive discussions between the government, concerned entities, and authorities, all to achieve balanced goals, and find the perfect balance.
