In 2022 MDA approached several market players involved in Condominium and Building Management in Malta. Interest in the sector grew over the years since the establishment of the Condominium Act back in 2001. Building and Condominium Management has become an essential part of the lifetime of a building and the standard of living of occupants of buildings is of utmost importance to MDA.
A number of members have joined the Condominium & Building Management Section of MDA (“the Section”) and subsequently elected a board of representatives headed by Andrew Xuereb of Realhouse Management Ltd, and assisted by Joanna Xuereb of MG Administrators Ltd and Yosef El Khatib of Regent Property Services Ltd.
Primarily the Section appointed a legal consultant, Dr Ryan Falzon, to work with the member representatives in drawing up a paper for the proposed reform of the Condominium Law of Malta and this paper will be the basis of the Section’s consultation with the respective Ministry and government entities involved.
Various meetings were also held between the Section and a number of stakeholders including the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, ARMS, Identity Malta and MCCAA where different aspects of condominia and challenges posed to condominium administrators were discussed and various recommendations made.
The Section has more plans to see the necessary reform through and intends discussing these proposals with various stakeholders going forward.
