The Malta Developers Association (MDA) believes that it is high time that mitigation measures are introduced to address problems connected to lack of proper holistic planning which has resulted in many unsightly developments across the country, particular in or close to typical Maltese villages.
Addressing a formal meeting between the Council of the MDA and the PN – the first since Dr Bernard Grech was elected as leader – the President of the MDA Sandro Chetcuti said that MDA looks ahead to put forward tangible proposals and ideas for discussion towards a better quality of life and a more prosperous country.
Mr Chetcuti said that during the past decade, the MDA has grown from a small group of developers to a professional body representing over 1000 members, from developers to different sectors of contractors, real estate agents, landlords, quarry owners and renewable energy providers. This has made the MDA a strong voice for the industry, where the authorities can find a reliable and reasonable representative of an important economic sector, speaking with one voice.
He said that the MDA Council shares and understands the public’s concerns where it comes to over development, lack of open and green spaces, and loss of identity and character of our traditional towns and villages.
Noting that most of these concerns are a direct result of many years of lack of proper holistic planning across all political administrations, the MDA, is determined to propose mitigation measures for discussion aimed at saving what’s left of Malta and to find the right balance between the needs of the industry and sustainability.
