MDA welcomes Prime Minister’s commitment to the construction sector

The Malta Development Association (MDA) welcomes Prime Minister Robert Abela’s commitment to supporting the construction and property development sector, recognising its vital contribution to Malta’s economy, investment and employment.

The Prime Minister’s statement that the industry must continue moving forward sends a positive message to investors, businesses and thousands of families whose livelihoods depend on the sector.

MDA President Michael Stivala stated:

“We welcome the Prime Minister’s recognition of our industry’s importance. Construction and property development remain essential pillars of Malta’s economy. However, our objective should not simply be to build more, but to build better.”

MDA supports the Government’s ongoing reforms to strengthen building standards, contractor classification and public safety, several of which the Association has advocated for over the years.

The Association also emphasises the importance of reforming planning procedures, reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and ensuring timely decisions. Excessive delays and administrative costs ultimately increase property prices, affecting Maltese families.

“We need a modern, professional and sustainable industry supported by clear regulations, efficient authorities and long-term planning. Protecting residents and encouraging responsible investment must go hand in hand,” Mr Stivala added.

MDA also calls for greater investment in infrastructure, energy-efficient buildings and urban regeneration.

The Association remains committed to working constructively with the Government, Opposition and all stakeholders to ensure that Malta continues developing responsibly while strengthening economic growth and safeguarding future generations.
