MDA insists its Budget proposals as agreed before general election

The Malta Developers Association presented a substantial document with concrete proposals for Budget 2018, some of which can be implemented immediately.

MDA President Sandro Chetcuti, who headed a delegation of Council members, augured that the Prime Minister and his Government would continue to achieve further progress and success in its endeavours to take the country to the next level. He praised Government’s initiatives that have truly brought the best of times in terms of employment and a booming economy.

Both PN leadership contenders request meeting with MDA

The two Nationalist Party leadership contenders, Dr Adrian Delia and Dr Chris Said, held separate meetings with the Malta Developers Association Council. The meetings, held at the request of the two candidates, turned out to be two long, fruitful discussions.

Both Dr Delia and Dr Said acknowledged the good work of the MDA and its highly valid contribution to the country.

MDA welcomes the skill cards scheme

The Malta Developers Association welcomes in the most positive manner the skill cards scheme, which the BICC (Building Industry Consultative Council) is introducing in the near future.

Through this scheme, a genuine effort is going to be made to give due recognition to those who work in the construction industry and, at the same time, the system is going to help raise quality, health and safety standards at the place of work and improve the conditions of employment of those who are qualified.

The first trades to be included in the scheme are those of plumbers, assistant electricians, painters and tile layers – sectors where there is a demand for trained people who are recognised for their level of capabilities.

The MDA believes that through this scheme the level of quality in the construction industry will continue to rise because at last there is going to be official recognition of these workers’ abilities.

This system will lead to fewer accidents at the workplace and will help to curb the unjust competition between those who provide these services. On the other hand, consumers will be more reassured that they will be getting a high level of workmanship and therefor value for their money, and they will be better protected because they are going to be better informed on the level of service they will be receiving.

The MDA took an active part in the discussions that were held within the BICC in preparation for the launch of this scheme, once there is a wider consultation about it.

Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tilqa’ bl-aktar mod pożittiv l-iskema ta’ skill cards, li se tkun introdotta fil-futur qarib mill-BICC (Building Industry Consultative Council).

B’din l-iskema, se jsir sforz ġenwin biex il-ħiliet ta’ dawk li jaħdmu fil-kostruzzjoni jingħataw għarfien xieraq u fl-istess waqt is-sistema sejra tgħin biex jogħlew l-istandards ta’ kwalità, saħħa u sigurtà fuq ix-xogħol u jtejbu l-kondizzjonijiet ta’ impjieg għal min ikun ikkwalifikat.

L-ewwel snajja’ li se jiddaħħlu f’din l-iskema se jkunu plumbers, assistant electricians, bajjada u dawk li jqegħdu l-madum – setturi fejn hemm domanda għal nies imħarrġa li jkunu rikonoxxuti għall-livell tal-kapaċitajiet tagħhom.

L-MDA temmen li permezz ta’ din l-iskema l-livell tal-kwalità fl-industrija tal-kostruzzjoni se jkompli jiżdied għaliex sa fl-aħħar se jkun hemm rikonoxximent uffiċjali għall-abbiltajiet ta’ dawn il-ħaddiema.

Din is-sistema se twassal biex jonqsu l-inċidenti fuq il-lant tax-xogħol u se tgħin biex titrażżan il-kompetizzjoni inġusta bejn dawk li jipprovdu dawn is-servizzi. Min-naħħa l-oħra, il-konsumaturi se jkun aktar moħħhom mistrieħ li jkollhom livell ta’ xogħol għoli u b’hekk valur għall-prezz li se jħallas, u ser jkunu aktar protetti għaliex ser ikunu aktar informati fuq il-livell ta servizz li ser jingħatalhom.

L-MDA ipparteċipat bis-sħiħ fid-diskussjonijiet li saru fi ħdan il-BICC biex issa se tkun varata din l-iskema wara li ssir konsultazzjoni aktar wiesa dwarha.
