MDA on Lands Department irregularities

The Malta Developers Association notes the steps the Government has taken in the light of the Auditor General’s report on the expropriation of a share of a property in Old Mint Street, Valletta.

The MDA welcomes in the most positive way the Prime Minister’s decision to conduct a fundamental reform of the Department of Lands and Government Properties by creating an Authority to lead this most important sector in the administration of the country. The MDA reminds that it has been insisting on a reform in this Department for many years.

The MDA is of the opinion that, even if it took a long time to be concluded, thanks to the Auditor’s report on the case and its inevitable consequences, democracy in the country has been strengthened in the areas of transparency and accountability. MDA hopes that this case will act as a lesson to everyone that there is no room for abuse in the governance of this country and whoever abuses will not get off lightly.

L-MDA dwar l-abbużi fid-Dipartiment tal-Artijiet

Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tinnota l-passi li ttieħdu mill-Gvern fid-dawl tar-rapport tal-Awditur Ġenerali dwar l-esproprijazzjoni ta’ sehem minn proprjetà fi Triq Zekka, il-Belt, Valletta.

L-MDA tilqa’ bl-aktar mod pożittiv id-deċiżjoni tal-Prim Ministru li ssir riforma mill-qiegħ tad-Dipartiment tal-Artijiet u l-Proprjetajiet tal-Gvern billi titwaqqaf Awtorità li tmexxi dan is-settur importanti fl-amministrazzjoni tal-pajjiż. L-MDA tfakkar li ilha ħafna snin tinsisti li kien hemm bżonn riforma f’dan id-Dipartiment.

L-MDA tħoss li, anki jekk ħa wisq żmien biex kien konkluż, bir-rapport tal-Awditur dwar dan il-kaz u l-konsegwenzi inevitabbli tiegħu, issaħħet id-demokrazija ta’ pajjiżna fejn tidħol trasparenza u kontabilità u tispera li dan il-każ iservi ta’ lezzjoni għal kulħadd li f’dan il-pajjiż mhemmx lok għal abbużi fit-tmexxija tiegħu u li min jabbuża ma jistax jeħlisha lixxa.
