MDA on electricity tariffs

The Malta Developers Association notes that, as a result of the lowering of electricity bills as promised by the Government, the certainty on these tariffs contributed to a more stable economy in the country, so much so that the economy continued to grow.

While it appears that, because of the lowering of the international oil price, there is room for further lowering of these tariffs, the MDA understands that Enemalta has to make good for past debts. More importantly, one has to be careful that the further lowering of these tariffs does not encourage waste of electricity to the detriment of the environment.

In these circumstances, the MDA suggests that part of the profits that Enemalta is making due to the lower oil prices should go to greater spending on clean energy through more incentives to those who buy solar panels and insulate their roofs, and through the introduction of new incentives, like to those who build in a more energy efficient way as in the use of double glazing and thermal breaks in their apertures and any products that lessen emissions.

Meanwhile the MDA continues to encourage developers and property owners to play their part so that buildings in Malta are more energy efficient.

PRESS RELEASE

L-MDA dwar it-tariffi tal-elettriku

Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tinnota li bħala riżultat tar-roħs fil-kontijiet tal-elettriku kif imwiegħed mill-Gvern, iċ-ċertezza dwar dawn it-tariffi ikkontribwiet biex l-ekonomija tal-pajjiż tkun aktar stabbli, tant li kompliet tikber.

Filwaqt li jidher li bir-roħs fil-prezzijiet internazzjonali taż-żejt jista’ jkun hemm lok għal aktar roħs, l-MDA tifhem li l-Enemalta trid tpatti għad-dejn tal-passat. Aktar importanti wieħed irid joqgħod attent li r-roħs aktar fit-tariffi ma jservix ta’ inkoraġġiment għal ħela ta’ elettriku għad-dannu tal-ambjent.

F’dawn iċ-ċirkostanzi, l-MDA tissuġġerixxi li parti mill-qliegħ li qed tagħmel l-Enemalta minħabba r-roħs fil-prezz taż-żejt għandha tmur għal aktar infieq favur enerġija nadifa permezz ta’ żieda fl-inċentivi lil min jixtri l-pannelli solari u lil min jagħmel insulazzjoni fis-soqfa, u bl-introduzzjoni ta’ inċentivi ġodda għal min jibni b’mod li ma jaħlix ħafna enerġija bħal bl-użu ta’ double glazing u thermal breaks fl-aperturi u qwalunkwe prodotti li jnaqqsu l-emissjonijiet.

Sadanittant l-MDA tkompli tinkoraġġixxi lill-iżviluppaturi u lis-sidien tal-propjetà jagħmlu l-isforzi tagħhom sabiex il-bini f’Malta ikun aktar effiċjenti mill-lat ta’ enerġija.
