Parliamentary Secretary Falzon addresses MDA members

Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Simplification of Administrative Processes Dr Michael Falzon emphasised the importance of quality developments and urged developers to work with the administration on many initiatives that are planned, including land reclamation.

Dr Falzon was addressing members of the Malta Developers Association during a well-attended event held yesterday at Villa Rosa, St Julian’s. Since he had worked at the bank for 35 years, Dr Falzon said he knew many of the main developers personally, most of whom were present in the hall, and he recognised the progress the Maltese economy has made thanks to development.

“Construction is one of the pillars of the economy, along with tourism and financial services. We are constantly doing a balancing act and our position is not always easy,” he added. Among the initiatives he mentioned that have been introduced is those in favour of first time buyers and the new Floor Area Ration regulations that should give new scope for development in the country.

MDA President Sandro Chetcuti said that the Association wants to be in the forefront working with the authorities to pave the way for developers so that what is normally achieved in a week can be obtained within a day. He quoted the Association of European Union Developers (UEPC) that found through research that Malta was among the few European countries to have emerged from the crisis in the property market.

“Between 2012 and 2013 there was a correction and, if were work sensibly, we can create wealth in the country,” Mr Chetcuti said. He mentioned that after the annual general meeting of the UEPC, held last week in Madrid, it was decided that next year’s meeting will be held in Malta. Following a meeting between the MDA Council and the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, he announced that an event will soon be held to raise funds for the Community Chest Fund.

Segretarju Parlamentari Falzon jindirizza l-membri tal-MDA

Is-Segretarju Parlamentari għall-Ippjanar u Simplifikazzjoni tal-Proċessi Amministrattivi Dr Michael Falzon emfasizza l-importanza li l-iżvilupp ikun ta’ kwalità u ħeġġeġ l-iżviluppaturi biex jaħdmu mal-amministrazzjoni fuq il-ħafna inizjattivi ppjanati, fosthom tar-reklamazzjoni tal-art.

Dr Falzon kien qiegħed jindirizza l-membri tal-Malta Developers Association (MDA) waqt avveniment li għaliha kien hemm attendenza mill-aqwa, li saret ilbieraħ f’Villa Rosa, San Ġiljan. Peress li ħadem il-bank għal 35 sena, Dr Falzon qal li kien jaf ħafna mill-iżviluppaturi ewlinen personalment, il-maġġoranza tagħhom preżenti fis-sala, u għaraf il-progress li sar fl-ekonomija Maltija permezz tal-iżvilupp.

“Il-kostruzzjoni hu wieħed mill-pilastri tal-ekonomija, flimkien mat-turiżmu u s-servizzi finanzjarji. Irridu naslu għal bilanċ u l-pożizzjoni tagħna mhux dejjem faċli,” żied jgħid Dr Falzon. Fost l-inizjattivi li semma hemm dik ta’ min jixtri proprjetà għall-ewwel darba, u tal-Floor Area Ratio li għadha tagħti skop għal żvilupp fil-pajjiż.

Il-President tal-MDA, Sandro Chetcuti, qal li l-Assoċjazzjoni trid tkun fost ta’ quddiem biex taħdem mal-awtoritajiet biex twitti t-triq għall-iżviluppaturi biex dak li s-soltu isir f’ġimgħa, isir l-għada. Ikkwota l-Assoċjazzjoni tal-Iżviluppaturi tal-Unjoni Ewropea (UEPC) li sabet minn stħarriġ li Malta hi fost il-ftit pajjiżi fl-Ewropa li ħarġet mill-kriżi tas-suq tal-proprjetà.

“Bejn l-2012 u l-2013 kien hemm korrezzjoni u, jekk naħdmu bil-għaqal, nistgħu noħolqu l-ġid fil-pajjiż,” qal is-Sur Chetcuti. Semma li wara l-laqgħa annwali tal-UEPC f’Madrid il-ġimgħa l-oħra, iddeċidew li jżommu l-laqgħa annwali tal-2015 f’Malta. Wara laqgħa li l-Kunsill tal-MDA kellu mal-President ta’ Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, ħabbar li dalwaqt iżommu avveniment biex jiġbru fondi għall-Community Chest Fund.
