MDA asks for 2-month extension for those who sign promise of sale by June

The Malta Developers Association regards Government’s decision to exempt those who are buying their first home (first-time buyers) from paying stamp duty on the first €150,000 as a step that greatly helped the property market to recover. At the same time, the Government’s revenue from the tax on property sales increased and not decreased, as some thought would happen.

The MDA recalls that this scheme was for a year on the MDA’s suggestion and then it was extended by six months for those who made a contract of purchase up to the end of June this year.

The MDA believes that at present the momentum in the property market should not slacken and therefore it suggests that, without extending the scheme, two further months are allowed for those who sign a promise of sale (konvenju) before the end of June so that the current pressure on the banks and the notaries to file the necessary paperswill be lessened.

L-MDA titlob estenzjoni ta’ xahrejn għal dawk li jagħmlu konvenju sa Ġunju

Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tħares lejn id-deċiżjoni tal-Gvern li jeżenta lil dawk li jkunu se jixtru dar għall-ewwel darba (first-time buyers) għal ħlas tal-boll  sa fuq l-ewwel €150,000 bħala wieħed mill-passi li għenu ħafna biex jirkupra s-suq tal-proprjetà. Fl-istess ħin, il-Gvern żdiedlu id-dhul mit-taxxi fuq il-bejgħ ta’ proprejtà u mhux naqaslu, kif kien hawn min beża’ li se jiġri.

L-MDA tfakkar li din l-iskema kienet saret għal sena fuq proposta tal-MDA stess u imbagħad kient imġedda b’sitt xhur għal min jagħmel kuntratt ta’ xiri sal-aħħar ta’ Ġunju ta’ din is-sena.

L-MDA temmen li fil-preżent hemm bżonn  li l-momentum fis-suq tal-proprjetà ma jonqosx u għalhekk qed tissuġġerixxi li, mingħajr ma tiġi estiża l-iskema, jingħata xahrejn iżjed żmien għal dawk li jagħmlu konvenju qabel l-aħħar ta’ Ġunju sabiex tonqos il-pressjoni li bħalissa hemm kemm fuq il-banek u n-nutara biex dawn ikunu jistgħu jgħaddu l-karti kollha meħtieġa.
