MDA appeals for greater professionalism at work place

The Malta Developers Association feels it needs to express itself on incidents on construction sites, some of them even with fatal consequences, which are regularly reported.

Without going into the merits of individual cases, the MDA feels that certain amateurism in the construction sector is out of date and that nowadays we cannot do without professionalism in this sector.

The MDA recognises in a positive manner all the efforts being made by the state entity for security at the workplace – the OHSA – and urges everyone to observe the OHSA’s guidelines on every job that is carried out, large or small, both for personal as well as commercial reasons.

Since it was set up, the MDA has kept its members updated on their obligations towards the safeguarding and security both of workers and the public on the workplace. To continue this endeavour, it intends to upload to its website (www.mda.com.mt) all the information on the legal provisions that safeguard health and safety on construction sites so that this information will be accessible both to its members as well as to the public.

Above all, the MDA feels it is its duty to draw the authorities’ attention itself, where it sees that these provisions are not being observed, to take the necessary steps.

L-MDA tappella għal iktar professjonaliżmu fuq il-lant tax-xogħol

Il-Malta Developers Association (MDA) tħoss li għandha issemma leħinha dwar inċidenti fuq il-lant tax-xogħol tal-kostruzzjoni, xi wħud minnhom anki b’konsegwenzi fatali, li sikwit qed ikunu rrappurtati.

Mingħajr ma tidhol fil-merti ta’ xi każ partikolari, l-MDA tħoss li wasal iż-żmien li ċertu dilettantiżmu fil-qasam tax-xogħol tal-kostruzzjoni m’għadux żmienu u tagħraf li l-professjonalità f’dan il-qasam illum hi xi ħaġa li ma nistgħux ngħaddu mingħajrha.

L-MDA tagħraf b’mod pożittiv l-isforzi kollha li jsiru mill-organu statali għall-ħarsien tas-sigurtà fuq ix-xogħol – l-OHSA – u tħeġġeġ lil kulħadd biex josserva l-linji gwida tal-OHSA f’kull biċċa xogħol li ssir, żgħira jew kbira, kemm għal skopijiet personali kif ukoll għal negozju.

Sa mit-twaqqif tagħha l-MDA żammet lill-membri tagħha nformati dwar l-obbligi tagħhom dwar il-ħarsien u s-sigurtà kemm tal-ħaddiema, kif ukoll tal-pubbliku, fuq il-lantijiet tax-xogħol. Biex tkompli f’din il-ħidma, se tpoġġi fuq il-website tagħha (www.mda.com.mt) l-informazzjoni kollha dwar il-provvedimenti legali li jassiguraw is-saħħa u s-sigurtà fix-xogħolijiet tal-kostruzzjoni sabiex din l-informazzjoni tkun aċċessibbli kemm mill-membri tagħha kif ukoll mill-pubbliku in generali. Dawn il-provvedimenti jinkludu wkoll l-obbligu tar-reġistrazzjoni ta’ min ikun responsabbli għal kull żvilupp, kemm bħala sid, kif ukoll bħala kuntrattur.

Fuq kollox, l-MDA tħoss li hu d-dover tagħha li fejn tara li dawn il-provvedimenti ma jkunux qed ikunu osservati, tkun hi stess li tiġbed l-attenzjoni tal-awtoritajiet konċernati biex jittieħdu l-passi li jkun hemm bżonn.
